about

Years ago, my song took an unexpected turn, reaching beyond the music itself. A stranger messaged me, sharing that this song had saved their life. This revelation surprised me, but it didn't end there. Today, that very song has become my lifeline.

Loneliness and darkness should never define us. No one should believe they're insignificant. I faced the depths of despair after enduring the unimaginable, even considering suicide. This struggle robbed me of strength and plunged me into depression. But I chose to rise, to seek a brighter future. I revisited the song, weaving in harmony. It symbolizes standing in one's truth, finding resilience, and embracing wisdom to build a brighter tomorrow.

This song embodies a life without overpowering fear. It's a tribute to people who've felt unseen and unloved due to oppression, particularly queer black individuals. It's about sharing a humanity where everyone deserves to shine and be cherished.

lyrics

Raef was a man, who lived in constant fear
Never trusted any man, never let anyone near
He was sitting in the corner hiding in thee shadows of his own world
He was listening to everyone and always did what he was told

He didn't have a voice, he couldn't speak
Everyone would say man, you're oh so week
Always pushed down, never could look up
Everything he did, he was told he was a fuck up
He was living in fear, poor Raef was living in fear
He was living in fear...

Then he started working on himself, he learned his own words could soothe his soul
He didn't need anyone else's approve, no one else's approval
So Raef did what he wanted, he said what he said
He stopped the group thinking and he started using his own head.
He didn't have to be anything he didn't want to be

Raef was himself, Raef was himself
No longer needing anyone else's approval
Yes, reef was himself

Now, everyone started to turn on him
because he started to learn form his old mistakes
Everyones oh so mad, because they were like "Boy, you should have stayed in your place"
They say, "who do you think you are now? Now you think you're better than us?
They tried to drag him back to the ground, but I rose above and he was tough
He said you won't get me there, Raef said “you won't get me there”

Im on to new things,
Im living happily,
you were so content with misery
And I just wanted to be me

Now Raef is aware
(Is aware, is aware)
He can wear his crown and not care
(Not Care)
Not needing anyones approval
Anymore
Anymore
There words tried to tear him down

Now he stands so tall
Raef is standing above it all
Because not Raef doesn’t care
(Care)

Now Raef he doest care…
(Care)
